Note: This sweet, savory, and nutty roasted broccoli amps up the traditional Japanese salad and is a perfect side dish to any Japanese menu.
Ingredients:
1 pound broccoli florets
1/4 cup olive oil or sunflower oil
2 tablespoons sesame seeds or 2 tablespoons tahini
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoons white miso paste
1 tablespoon mirin
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Toss broccoli florets with oil and spread out on a baking sheet. Roast for 20 minutes until the broccoli is slightly charred
If using sesame seeds, toast them lightly in a small pan over medium heat until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Grind them up in a mortar and pestle until they are the texture of coarse sand
In a medium bowl, combine the ground sesame seeds (or tahini), sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, miso, and mirin. Whisk to combine
When the broccoli is cooked, toss the florets with the sesame dressing and serve
